Why She Is Smiling (Seemingly) Inexplicably
Because, as she trudges laboriously and slowly up MacDonald Cresent (as one can only do at 08:35, having slept less than six hours the night before), passing a car from which muffled beats are emitting, she picks up the muffled (but no less distinctive) strain of a feminine high-pitched warbling which her Bollywood-primed and saturated mind and ears immediately identify as Indian: Hindi.
Because she even manages to make out the lyrics "sonii merii paayal".
Because this means at the ungodly morning hour of 08:35, somewhere on the slope of MacDonald Cresent, someone is blasting 'Say Shava Shava' in his cheery red car.
Because 'Say Shava Shava' is just the sort of song ('Aaj Mera Jee Karda' notwithstanding) to kick off a beautiful morning.
Because the foliage along Salamanca Road looks just gorgeous in the timorous morning light.
Because somewhere along Salamanca Road, there is a car with a teddy bear curled up in the backseat.
Because some guy passes her along Salamanca Road, whiffing of an unidentified yet familiar sweet cologne, which triggers a wistful yet charming rush of nostalgia.
