Wanted: Complementing Horoscopes
Over dinner last night, the boys kept telling me I couldn't do part time jobs my whole life. Germ, especially, was haranguing me about "security".
He was like: "You can't do this part time thingy forever. You need to plan for your future, have some financial planning. You know, I worry for you, yet you don't seem to care about your future."
(This is the same guy who thinks freelancing is very risky; and, strangely enough, he isn't the financial planner of the Trinity - he's an underwriting assistant.)
Me: "But I like the freedom of a part time job. Besides, one of them is a permanent part time gig; if I liked it, I could continue with it full time. Don't you like to have freedom?"
Germ: "I would trade a bit of that freedom for security."
Me: "But that's not a guaranteed deal. You might not have that security for the freedom you gave up. And you may not be happy."
Germ: "Still ... It never occurred to me or Jason to not find a full time job when we graduated. I mean, that was the first thing we focused on and did. But you - you are doing part time and freelancing!"
Me: "But ... deciding on a permanent full time position so soon is like getting married to someone you've met only once. It doesn't happen in this century! Or, maybe it does - arranged marriages - but even then, your horoscopes would match. What if your horoscope didn't match your job's?"
I wish I could claim I 'won' the argument on this note, but I didn't.
So, if anybody knows of a job whose planetary alignments complement mine (I'm a Pisces Sun and a Virgo Moon; I'll work on getting a natal chart drawn up soon), please introduce the two of us.
I need to get some people off my back about issues I don't like or want to discuss ... such as "job security", "financial planning", and "the future".
