Addiction

I am s, and I am an audio-download addict.

Used to be, I'd only download Hindi songs, but then I found a whole new world of non-Hindi music, blogs dedicated to certain genres of music, and I expanded my audio horizons.

For a three-month period from December last year to February this year, I had an obsession, an addiction. Every morning, noon, and night, I would log on for a couple of hours to surf the (approximately) three and a half dozens of music blogs in my Favorites folder - excluding the ones I was directed to via an audio-blog aggregator.

This translated into a daily average of forty to sixty downloads. I had a perpetual backlog of tracks to sample, and I just couldn't catch up. Still, I just could not stop downloading. Friends started telling me I have a problem, but I already knew I had one.

After the first couple of week, it had became an obsessive-compulsive thing. I kept thinking, but there's so much music out there that I've never heard - how can I possibly stop downloading? So I didn't - I couldn't.

Albums and EPs keep popping up faster and more rampantly than fungi after a storm; I just had to try 'em all: Man Man, Final Fantasy, The Fiery Furnaces, Bishop Allen, Paavoharju, Piana, Múm, Broadway Hush, NajwaJean, etc., and then there are the oldies that I've not heard - the complete scratchy recordings of Skip James, especially (whom I got into after a one-song introduction in Ghost World - the movie, not the graphic novel which I've still not found.)

Even though I've been working for the past month and a half, I still cannot tear myself completely away from downloading music. As of now, my backlog stands at a constant of a little over 2GBs.

I need help. Not only can I not stop downloading, I can't get the earworms some of the tracks had become outta my ears.

Am I going crazy?
