Let's Get Out Of This Country
Sajitha was just saying, earlier last week, how pissed off she was. Her heart's with Thailand - Pipi Island, in particular - and she wanted so much to return to Pipi (and to her boyfriend).
In fact, she'd booked her tickets already and had emailed her ex-boss (when she lived there, she worked in a dive shop by the beach) about her impending visit. Unfortunately, her parents wanted her to stay in Singapore ("To take care of my sister's cats," she'd fumed, "while they're off to India!") and look for a permanent job.
The main reason she'd been so majorly pissed off was that she'd cancelled her tickets and her trip due to the fact that she didn't have the (approximately) SGD 500 she needed for rent - and this was immediately before her ex-boss had emailed back and told her to go on over anyway, he'd pay her rent for her.
Then, I could only tsk-tsked in sympathy and murmur, "As they say, c'est la vie."
I meant it too - I felt, not so much pissed off as frustrated, for Sajitha ... then this morning, I got the same news, more or less, as Sajitha - something concerning Welly and my honors degree.
Sometimes, I wish I didn't have to be the stoic one, the one too proud and too ashamed to cry.
